Hello GISuser... and welcome to another August GeoTech news roundup. It would be interesting to hand a smartphone to Alexander Graham Bell. I don't think he could fathom that his invention would translate to what it is now. In what started as a line and a can has evolved to include video communication, cloud computing and sending images and messages to your dearest ones instantaneously. Even more mind-blowing is how quickly the technology has evolved over the past 20 years. For a little reminder and some fun, have a look at this feature contribution that takes a brief look at the history of the cell phone. Speaking of mobile, the UAS is all the rage these days it seems, and there's no shortage of companies that are jumping into the space (think Trimble Gatewing). Most recently, Topcon has inked a deal with UAS provider MAVinci. The new system is the first commercially available UAS that can reach an extreme level of accuracy without the need for ground control points. Based in St. Leon Rot, Germany, MAVinci specializes in solutions for aerial surveying and the development of UAS technology - See more on the deal HERE. So if you were about to jump in and get yourself your first UAS (drone) for personal use what would you get? Have a great day everyone...
