A recent EAST student summer project at the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) concentrated on creating a detailed 3D model of critical portions of the city of Fayetteville, AR.
The makers of Google Earth and SketchUp were so impressed by the project's results that they have now featured the work as a "Google Pick" in the Google 3D Warehouse. Items in the 3D Warehouse can be downloaded for use in Google SketchUp or viewed in Google Earth.
To learn more about the project and the students involved, download SketchUp models, Google Earth files, or view posters from the project, visit the 2006 CADIS CRATE website at http://www.cast.uark.edu/local/cadis_crate_06.
The project was part of a series of ongoing projects held for the past seven years known as CADIS (Community Asset Development & Information System) and CRATE (Creating Realistic Animation Through EAST). This year's project involved students from Greenland High School, Lincoln High School, and Nashville High School, as well as two Cedarville High School students in the Upward Bound program at the University of Arkansas. The work was led by two U of A architecture students.
