GeoExpress 6 combines the strengths of the industry-standard image compression format, MrSID, with the ISO-standard JPEG 2000, and integrates powerful image editing and manipulation tools to bring you the most advanced geospatial image software on the market. Read on as we explore "10 Cool Things" About GeoExpress 6 as presented from our friends at LizardTech.. enjoy!
10 Things You Should Know About GeoExpress:
1. You can compress images to MrSID or JPEG 2000.
2. You can store MrSID and JPEG 2000 images natively in Oracle Spatial using Spatial Express.
3. You can compress images losslessly, so they are identical to the source image, but up to 50% smaller.
4. If you want to recompress an image, try "optimizing" it. It can be ten times faster than recompressing!
5. MrSID Generation 3 (MG3) files have no file size limitation.
6. You can mosaic and color balance existing SIDs or JP2s together using GeoExpress Tools.
7. You can use a shapefile to define areas of interest, and compress different areas of the image at different compression ratios.
8. You can reproject imagery to one of over 2000 predefined coordinate systems, or...
9. You can select an existing ESRI .prj file and apply that as the coordinate system.
10. If you hold down CTRL+SHIFT while selecting "Help | About GeoExpress..." you can find an Easter egg that shows LizardTech's internal codename for the product.
On a side-note, I've seen GeoExpress in action (up-close) and one of the coolest things I think you'll find about GeoExpress is the ease of use and the bundling of commonly required tasks that more users of digital imagery need. (Glenn, GISuser Founder)
