Osmose Mapping Center Now Utilizing ArcFM™ PDF Print E-mail
Written by Miner & Miner
Tuesday, 11 July 2006

Buffalo, NY and Fort Collins, CO -- The Osmose Mapping Center, an online service provided by Osmose Utilities Services, has standardized its map-maintenance operation on the ArcFM Solution and MultiSpeak data model from Miner & Miner, a Telvent company. The Osmose Mapping Center provides electric utilities with web-based access to facility maps which are hosted by Osmose on an ESRI ArcGISr geographic information system (GIS). The service gives utilities access to high-quality maps and professional mapping services without financial investments in GIS software or an on-site mapping department.

"The Osmose Mapping Center offers an affordable way for utilities to get high-end GIS data and expert map maintenance," says Tom Petrik, Vice President - Technology for Osmose. "The integration of Miner & Miner's ArcFM mapping tools improves the efficiency and precision of mapping operations, so our customers get more accurate maps, more reliable connectivity data, and more timely updates."

ArcFM is an application based on ESRI's ArcGIS, which is the foundation of the Osmose Mapping Center. ArcFM enables users to visualize the electric characteristics of their circuits and allows Osmose technicians to make updates, data model changes, and symbology modifications more productively. The product also streamlines map production, network tracing, and feature editing and manipulation - leading to faster map updates and more accurate renderings of outside plant assets.

Adding ArcFM functions to the Osmose Mapping Center helps accelerate operations such as data validation, error detection, and accuracy checks - including automated detection of dead spans and closed loops. These network errors can also be highlighted in special configurations so that problems can be visually represented on the map seen by the customer. This, in turn, streamlines both the location of network problems and the process of issuing the work orders needed to address them.

"We are very excited that Osmose has chosen to standardize on ArcFM for the Mapping Center," stated Erika Murphy, Chief Marketing Officer for M&M. "This speaks to the many productivity tools that can be leveraged in the product. We think the solution, together with Osmose's ASP services, will allow utilities an opportunity to fully realize the value of their asset data in a more modern environment."
