NAVTEQ supplies enhanced map data to www.servingo.de where football fans can get the very latest, location-related information on the twelve match venues.
NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions was chosen by Servingo as supplier of digital road maps for Germany's new multi-regional navigation and information portal. Servingo was partly developed by NAVTEQ’s partner Intergraph, a world leader in delivering software and services for management and visual representation of complex information. Servingo will help football fans get to their destination and access other up-to-date, personalised local information free of charge via their mobile phone, smartphone, PDA or laptop.
NAVTEQ has updated its data on stadia and surrounding areas specifically for this major football event. Visitors of www.servingo.de will now be able to find all manner of relevant information surrounding the World Cup. The portal is available in German, English, Portuguese and Chinese.
Thanks to the large number of updated and newly recorded points of interest, users of the service can access comprehensive information on hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions. Whether it’s the nearest bus stop or the special car parks at the World Cup venues, Servingo will take users where they want to go. NAVTEQ’s updated map data also contains locations of match venues along with information on road accesses, car parks and Park & Ride facilities. Even footpaths between various destinations have been mapped for pedestrian traffic highlighting the locations of the big screens set up for consumer viewing throughout the World Cup cities. For even greater added value, Servingo combines the NAVTEQ data with a routable S-Bahn, underground and tram route network enabling not only motorists but also cyclists and pedestrians to find their way.
Servingo Service Portal represents the very first mobile, non-commercial, free telecommunication and internet service for the World Cup. The research and development project is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Servingo will be tested during the World Cup and if the service runs smoothly, it is expected to be implemented for commercial use at other major events in the future.
"For the Servingo project, Intergraph delivered the "mapping & routing component" and integrated the information on the public transport systems with the World Cup locations. As the World Cup is an international event with broad appeal, our project team did not want to take any risk on the map data", says Dr. Josef Kauer, Business Unit Manager of Intergraph. "Consequently, Integraph selected NAVTEQ digital map data who’s co-operation on the project was a success as the company was able to fulfill our high requirements completely."
"As Servingo’s sponsoring partner, we are delighted to be able to help make the World Cup in Germany an event that football fans will remember - not only for the goals, penalties and winners, but also for the conveniences this service will provide surrounding the event," explains Stefan Vogt, Marketing Manager Business Solutions at NAVTEQ. "With our map data, visitors to the twelve World Cup venues will get to the stadium or other transmission venues reliably. And hopefully have less chance of missing the kick-off!"
