Algonquin College, Ottawa Ont., has been offering for three years now a one year Graduate Program in GIS - this comes after decades of undergraduate offerings in GIS and surveying.
This program is a one-year course of study (three consecutive terms) designed to introduce GIS technologies and concepts to individuals who have previously obtained a degree or diploma in a related field. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely on-line, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with on-line learning activities.
Admission Requirements: Students must have a two or three year Ontario College Diploma (or university degree in a related field of study), or equivalent with department approval. All applicants must also demonstrate basic knowledge of Computer Programming
Topic areas include: GIS, cartography, remote sensing, programming and software customization, database design and Web GIS.
The Lab: The Graduate GIS Lab includes 28 workstations featuring the latest GIS and Remote Sensing software, including:
ArcGIS (ArcView, ArcInfo and Extensions) ArcIMS Internet Map Server AutoCad / AutoDesk Map ENVI Remote Sensing Image Processing In addition, software development tools are also provided
