Osmose to Introduce FastGate(R) for ArcGIS at GITA 2006  E-mail
Written by Osmose Utilities
24 April 2006
BUFFALO, N.Y.--April 24, 2006--Osmose has developed a new software offering to work directly with ESRI's ArcGIS products. FastGate(R) Mobile for ArcGIS, to be released at the 2006 GITA Conference and Exposition, will give Arc users a streamlined, field-friendly way to collect, update, and maintain external plant data that is stored in an ArcGIS geodatabase.

FastGate(R) Mobile for ArcGIS is an extension to ArcGIS Desktop tools, specifically ArcCatalog and ArcMap.

"Using FastGate Mobile for ArcGIS, utility personnel can take extracts of existing Arc data to the field for updates and verification -- or they can collect new information from scratch," said Mark Brule, Chief Technology Officer at Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. "In one pass, users can now gather data on a map-based Pocket PC device while GPS and digital camera options capture location markers and images. All this new data is then ready for posting to the geodatabase."

FastGate Mobile for ArcGIS is based directly on the ESRI data model so it can be customized for utility-specific uses. Map-based FastGate Mobile software is widely used to speed and automate the data-capture process by Osmose crews in all 50 states and by utilities around the country. FastGate Mobile for ArcGIS works in conjunction with the ArcGIS Desktop tools to define the objects and attributes to be collected, create data extracts from the geodatabase, and execute data transfers between the geodatabase and FastGate Mobile. While FastGate Mobile for ArcGIS was developed specifically for electric utilities, water and pipeline utilities that use ESRI tools to manage field data will also benefit from its unique capabilities.

Learn more by visiting booth #317 at GITA and by attending the product launch press conference at 11:10 a.m. on Monday, April 24 in Room 39 at the Tampa Convention Center. Also of note, Osmose's Ken McVearry will be presenting a paper on "Applying Earned Value Management Concepts to GIS" in Room 23 at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26.

Osmose Utilities Services provides inspection, maintenance and repair services for T&D and network infrastructure, together with a wide range of data acquisition and management services that support utility asset information systems. For more information call Chief Technology Officer Mark Brule at (315) 385-3802 or visit www.OsmoseUtilities.com.
