Precision Viticulture, Asset Tracking, Disaster Response and Homeland Security Demonstrations Launched at GITA
Denver, CO, April 21, 2006 – CH2M HILL Enterprise Spatial Solutions (ESS), a line of business within CH2M HILL Communications and Information Solutions, will showcase four demonstrations at its booth (#225) during GITA, held April 24-26, in Tampa, Fla. They include:
Precision Viticulture
A live demonstration of Google Earth enterprise edition integration with near-real-time sensors and RFID applied towards improving wine quality while reducing production costs in the Ceágo vinegarden owned and operated by Jim Fetzer.
The demonstration shows how traditional farming practices can provide valuable insight when coupled with state-of-the-art geospatial technologies. The ultimate goal of the project is to improve grape quality while reducing production.
GE Tracker
GE Tracker is a comprehensive solution with the ability to plot the location of GPS-enabled devices in real-time through Google Earth's rich 3-D interface.
GE Tracker provides intelligent location-based applications including asset tracking, routing, drive-time analysis, dispatch and incident notification. These applications are made intelligent through integration with commercial web services that factor traffic conditions and enable geocoding against a national transportation network. The demonstration uses Nextel phones phone software provided by Accutracking, routing and drive time analysis by ESRI and real-time traffic by Yahoo.
R911 Demonstration
The R911 application is one feature of an integrated communication system for public safety providing real-time early warning, visualization and communication during a disaster event.
Using the rich 3-D visualization of Google Earth, teams proactively command and communicate public risks events. By integrating visual geographical imagery with a Web-enabled database, the incident response can be seen real-time by showing the addresses that have been notified within the affected area.
Homeland Security/Emergency Management
The HS/EM application provides an emergency response planning capability that offers member agencies a visual database of shared resources.
Using the Google Earth client and a Web-enabled database, real-time tracking of in-transit resources is demonstrated. The application can also act as a prototype to be sold as a multi-jurisdictional HS/EM collaboration tool.
CH2M HILL ESS leverages 30 years of GIS, CAD, RDBMS and systems development expertise to help organizations create an enterprise view of its spatial data, assets and facilities; transform decision support tools and processes to a spatial/map orientation so a company can visualize its business; develop high impact applications that integrate spatial data with spatial technology; and execute key business initiatives more rapidly and efficiently via spatial analysis and process/work flow.
Currently, the business has solidified partnerships with key constituents including ESRI, Google Earth, Autodesk and Trimble to leverage the firm’s systems integrator status.
Headquartered in Denver, employee-owned CH2M HILL is a global firm providing engineering, construction, operations, and related technical services to public and private clients. With more than $3.8 billion in revenue, CH2M HILL is an industry leading program management, construction management for fee, and design firm, as ranked by Engineering-News Record (2005).
