Hood County, TX uses Pictometry for Appraisal, Public Safety, and Highway Management Applications  E-mail

Aerial Oblique Imagery Now Vital Part of County-wide Operations

ROCHESTER, NY - March 13, 2006 - Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery and measuring software announced today that Hood County, TX has implemented the company's visual information system in a wide range of county government departments. Hood County is located in the north central region of Texas and has a population of approximately 45,000 residents (2003 US Census). The county occupies an area of 422 square miles.

The Pictometry(r) system was initially funded by the Hood County Appraisal District and then deployed to other agencies as part of the company's county-wide site license agreement. Chief Appraiser Jeff Law says that the high-resolution aerial oblique images provide valuable information to both his department and the county residents. "The Pictometry system is very useful for our department in having an accurate way to visually inspect each property," said Law. "For our citizens, it also helps them during the appeals process to learn how we arrived at a particular assessment."

Pictometry's industry leading software enables Hood County users to easily access up to 12 different oblique (at an angle) views of any property, building, highway, or other feature in their county. The software also enables users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the 3D-like imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data.

Hood County Director of 9-1-1 Addressing, Pamela Stalions adds that the detailed imagery is being used to provide address confirmation of the county's new mapping program being developed. "We have a very unique terrain that Pictometry enables us to easily inspect as we develop our mapping program as mandated by the State of Texas," said Stalions. "Pictometry lets us see the location of our GIS mapping points that we are building. Our goal is to use Pictometry in conjunction with ESRI's ArcGIS and ArcMap to update our addressing capabilities to ensure that the driveway locations we determine, vital in a response situation, are
accurate."

"This product has saved me so much time. It's phenomenal," said Hood County Road Administrator Donald Linney. "There's a lot of preliminary work that can be done using Pictometry without having to leave the office." Uses in the Road Operations Department include measuring areas for proposed roadways, materials estimation for repairs, elevations for reviewing drainage areas, and distances for rights-of-way.

Public safety departments in the county are also finding the visual data useful. County EMS Director and Fire Marshal Roger Deeds says his department is finding the aerial imaging and software useful for a wide range of applications that include preplanning, reviewing fire-effected areas, and training. Captain Jerry Lind of the Hood County Sheriff's office said, "We had a high risk search warrant and the SWAT Team used the system to determine the best tactical approach to the residence. It allowed us to execute the warrant without any incident. I can see where this is going to be very useful in the future."
