Michigan's Waterford Township Switches to MWH Soft Advanced Geospatial Technology  E-mail
Written by MWH Soft
25 January 2006

Comprehensive Evaluation Confirms Superiority of InfoWater and InfoSewer
ArcGIS-Centric Modeling Solutions for Water Distribution and Sewer Collection Systems

Broomfield, Colorado USA, January 25, 2006 - MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced that the Waterford Township Department of Public Works (DPW), Michigan, has chosen MWH Soft's InfoWater Suite and InfoSewer Suite software to replace its existing modeling solution. The suites will serve as the foundation for developing a comprehensive ArcGIS-centric (ESRI, Redlands, CA) solution for managing the Township's drinking water infrastructure and sanitary sewer collection system. The selection continues to substantiate MWH Soft's leadership position in geospatial hydraulic infrastructure management in the North American market.

Waterford Township's decision to standardize on InfoWater and InfoSewer advanced geocentric technology followed an in-depth technical evaluation of a number of GIS-based modeling software packages by key DPW staff. InfoWater and InfoSewer suites were selected because they deliver powerful geocentric modeling functionality and ease of use in an affordable package. The accelerated adoption rate of MWH Soft geospatial technology across the continent reflects a powerful trend among water and wastewater utilities and progressive engineering firms toward choosing MWH Soft products. The choice is driven by a range of compelling factors, including unparalleled GIS integration capabilities, interoperability, reliability, brevity of learning curve, friendly user interface, comprehensive set of solutions, and superior technical support.

The Waterford Township Water and Sewer Division of the DPW is responsible for approximately 23,000 water and 25,000 sewer accounts, serving approximately 60,000 customers within its 36 square mile boundary. The Water Branch operates and maintains over 350 miles of water main, 11 iron filtration plants, storage facilities with a capacity of over 8,000,000 gallons, 3,300 fire hydrants and 3,000 valves. Average annual day water demand is approximately 8,000,000 gallons, with peak day demands exceeding 20,000,000 gallons. The Sewer Branch operates and maintains over 350 miles of sanitary sewer main, 8,500 sewer manholes, and 63 sewer pumping stations.

"We standardized on InfoWater Suite and InfoSewer Suite because they deliver a broad range of powerful modeling functions and meet the stringent criteria for certification by the National Association of GIS-Centric Software (NAGCS)," said Terry Biederman, PE, Waterford Township Public Works Director. "These packages are fast, easy to use, equipped with robust feature sets and run within our ESRI based GIS platform. They will allow us to improve our current water and sewer modeling effort by establishing a standard geocentric modeling platform to more efficiently generate and analyze our water and sewer network models. In turn, this will lower our maintenance costs, help us optimize our water and sewer capital planning, and improve the management and operation of our water and sewer systems."

Built atop ArcGIS with native geodatabase support, InfoWater and InfoSewer offer a single comprehensive, GIS-centric solution for analyzing and managing the most complex water distribution and sewer collections systems. A seamlessly integrated geospatial framework applies GIS intelligence to engineering-accurate information, coupled with the most advanced numerical computation, genetic algorithm optimization and object-component geospatial technologies in the marketplace. The resulting centralized, multi-function system enables world-record performance, scalability, reliability, functionality and flexibility within the powerful ArcGIS environment, completely eliminating the need for inefficient, unreliable data synchronization, synching schemes, or middlelink interfaces required by other software. These factors and more translate to increased productivity, reduced costs, greater efficiency, and improved designs - giving water and wastewater utilities a clear competitive advantage.

"MWH Soft is committed to helping our industry shift to the new GIS-centric hydraulic infrastructure modeling and management paradigm," said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and COO of MWH Soft. "We are proud that a growing number of water and wastewater utilities and engineering organizations worldwide are relying on our superior geospatial technology to deploy rigorous, high performance GIS-centric modeling and optimization systems. Clearly, no other solution offers such a powerful combination of functionality, GIS integration, speed, stability, and ease of use in support of better decision making and more economical operations."

"By far, MWH Soft offers the most comprehensive selection of ArcGIS-centric hydraulic modeling and management solutions in the water and wastewater industries," said J. Erick Heath, PE, Vice President of Sales and Client Relations at MWH Soft. "We design each of these critical tools to help our customers do their jobs better, faster and at lower cost. We're proud to know that InfoWater and InfoSewer will be helping Waterford Township build a foundation for success for decades to come."
