Consultants and industry professionals interested in market research on the commercial remote sensing industry will be pleased to know that NOAA has just made available the results of a new industry-wide International Remote Sensing Survey. The NOAA Satellite and Information Service Division contracted Global Marketing Insights to conduct a research study of the international remote sensing market as it relates to aerial and satellite data technologies.

NOAA International Remote Sensing Survey: Survey And Analysis of Remote Sensing Market Aerial and Spaceborne

GISuser.com and numerous other popular geospatial publications, industry organizations, and web resources (26 in total) promoted the survey to their readers in order to gather data for use in the report. These resources provided respondents from a range of geographic regions including North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Rim). Thousands of professionals filled in surveys, and countless others were interviewed personally in order to obtain data for use in the survey. Each individual survey yielded some 20 pages of data/statistics forming the basis of the analysis.

The 74 pages, 1.2 MB report is available for free access as a downloadable PDF document. The PDF can be obtained from Global Insights and NOAA (see direct links below). The overview touches on a number of areas, including technical trends in the industry, satellite sector trends, and government and political trends. Looking deeper into industry specifics, the report also covers off the future of remotely sensed software products, revenues, types of data, and applications/uses of satellite data. Respondents.

The Research

The NOAA Satellite and Information Service Division contracted Global Marketing Insights to conduct a research study of the international remote sensing market as it relates to aerial and satellite data technologies. Global Marketing Insights created a series of extensive online surveys covering issues related to eight sectors of the remote sensing market: aerial film, aerial digital, aerial sensors, satellites, commercial end users, value added hardware and software, academic, and government. These surveys were completed by geospatial industry professionals and end users worldwide between February and August 2005.

Consultants, companies, and academics interested in remote sensing technology, data products, and industry trends should be eager to get a copy of this report which will serve as a valuable planning tool for those seeking to capitalize on the growing market opportunities that our industry is realizing from the use of remotely sensed data products.
