MWH Soft Releases InfoSWMM Designer, The Ultimate Solution for Flooding and Pollution Management
Revolutionary Product Gives Wastewater Utilities Unparalleled Power to Quickly Eliminate Sewer Overflows At Significant Cost Savings
Broomfield, Colorado USA, January 4, 2006 - In its ongoing quest to equip the global wastewater industry with the world's most comprehensive and innovative GIS-centric modeling and design solutions, MWH Soft today announced the worldwide release of InfoSWMM Designer for ArcGIS (ESRI, Redlands, CA). The state-of-the-art optimization module marks a new high point in the evolution of the company's flagship urban drainage modeling product, firmly establishing it as the number one choice for the effective evaluation, management, rehabilitation, design, and operation of wastewater and stormwater collection systems.
As a full-featured urban drainage network analysis and design program, InfoSWMM delivers the highest rate of return in the industry. All operations of a typical sewer system - from analysis and design to management functions like water quality assessment, pollution prediction, urban flooding, real-time control and record keeping - are addressed in a single, fully integrated geoengineering environment. The program gives users unprecedented strength in managing urban runoff and wet weather water quality problems in combined, sanitary and storm sewers, optimizing BMP and LID designs, and meeting SSO and CSO regulations.
Extremely powerful, InfoSWMM can be used to model the entire land phase of the hydrologic cycle as applied to urban stormwater and wastewater collection systems. The software can perform single event or long-term (continuous) rainfall-runoff simulations accounting for climate, soil, land use, and topographic conditions of the watershed. In addition to simulating runoff quantity, InfoSWMM can also predict runoff quality - including buildup and washoff of pollutants from primarily urban watersheds.
The software incorporates full dynamic solution modeling of backwater effects and reverse flow, open channels, trunk sewers, storage and treatment units, pumps and complex hydraulic structures (e.g., weirs and orifices). An advanced real-time control scheme facilitates the optimization of storage and operation. Powerful graphics and reporting tools make these sophisticated modeling applications fast and easy, regardless of users' technical expertise.
InfoSWMM also supports a variety of specialized treatment plant control devices and river profiles, providing an Integrated Catchment Management solution for modeling the sewer system, the receiving water and the wastewater treatment plant in a unified manner.
The new InfoSWMM Designer leverages the power of advanced Genetic Algorithms optimization technology to aid in preventing sewer overflows, a leading cause of water pollution in the nation's lakes, streams and inland bays. The untreated sewage in these overflows contains microbial pathogens, suspended solids, toxics, nutrients, trash, and other impurities that deplete dissolved oxygen and can contaminate our waters, causing serious water quality problems and threatening drinking water supplies, fish and shellfish. This waste can also back up into basements, causing property damage and creating threats to public health for those who come in contact with it.
The software automatically selects the most cost-effective solution to flooding and pollution management, using a combination of pipe upsizing, storage, pumping and new piping to eliminate unwanted sewer overflows and achieve targeted system performance requirements. Performance criteria include maximum allowable depth to diameter ratio, minimum and maximum pipe velocities, and maximum head loss for force mains.
InfoSWMM Designer is the ultimate tool to help engineers produce the best possible design and improvement alternatives with minimum effort and maximum cost savings. Its capabilities will greatly assist wastewater utilities in planning and designing reliable systems and optimizing their capital improvement programs - leading to healthier communities, cleaner beaches, and fish and shellfish that are safer to eat.
Other InfoSWMM Suite modules include: Dry Weather Flow Allocator extension: automatically computes and assigns wastewater loads generated by various customer categories, based on land use, population, or meter data.
Subcatchment Manager extension: automatically defines all subcatchments and calculates their hydrologic parameters.
Optimal Calibration extension: automatically adjusts sewer parameters to match any combination of flow, depth, and velocity measurements. Parameters can include any combination of subcatchment, soil, aquifer, RDII, and conduit properties.
"Control of sewer overflows is vital in reducing risks to public health and protecting the environment from water pollution," said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and Chief Operating Officer of MWH Soft. "Unlike any other solution on the market, InfoSWMM Designer gives our clients the very best tool for performing the highly sophisticated urban stormwater runoff modeling they need to optimize their stormwater runoff management plans and control or eliminate sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and combined sewer overflows (CSOs). It is designed to help them pinpoint the most cost-effective way to remove all targeted flooding, keep their systems operating efficiently well into the future, and safeguard against adverse health and environmental effects. We are proud to introduce a revolutionary product that will make an immediate difference in people's lives."
Tracy Lenocker, PE, President of Lenocker & Associates and a leading GIS and sewer modeling expert, gives the software two thumbs up. "InfoSWMM Designer is a significant leap that reflects MWH Soft's commitment to making comprehensive urban drainage modeling technology easy to afford, easy to learn, and easy to use," says Lenocker. "No other software on the market today offers such a range of practical and powerful geocentric capabilities leveraging GIS capabilities from watershed delineation to producing maps for water quality monitoring and management. Wastewater utilities will take full advantage of this vanguard product to quickly and reliably produce sound, cost-effective solutions for enhancing system integrity and performance; reliably conveying sewer flows without surcharging, overflows, flooding, and backups; and more effectively managing and operating their sewer infrastructure systems."
