Sir Sanford Fleming College... aka Fleming College has several programs focused on training GIS professionals. Commencing in January 2006, the College is offering the following programs: Geographic Information Systems - Applications Specialist; Geographic Information Systems - Cartographic Specialist; Geomatics Technician. The programs are designed to train students using state-of-the-art technologies including software from ESRI, Autodesk, PCI Geomatics, and CARIS. Work experience will be gained doing experiential work - putting theory into practice. An internship program will provide practical experience and lead to valuable industry contacts.
Geomatics Technician Program Highlights This two-year diploma program, the first of its kind in Ontario, will train you to use state-of-the-art technology tools to collect, mine, store, manipulate, analyze, interpret and communicate geographic information - skills that can be applied to virtually any discipline such as urban planning, engineering, or crime investigation. With a one-to-one student to computer ratio, you'll have ample opportunity to practice your skills in our new geomatics labs. Your training will include proficiency in a variety of operating systems used in the industry today. You will also acquire expertise using GIS software from ESRI, Autodesk, PCI Geomatics, and CARIS - providing you with flexibility in the workforce.
GIS Cartographic Specialist Program Highlights The GIS Cartographic Specialist program is an advanced post-graduate program, building on your existing, related skills. You can complete this intensive program in 12 months; courses are subdivided into three trimesters of 15 weeks each, with 24 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction per week.
GIS Applications Specialist Program Highlights This post-graduate, intensive, three-semester GIS program will have you using current high-end technology tools to collect, store, manipulate, analyze, interpret, and communicate geographic information within a variety of disciplines. You'll work on several operating systems used in the industry today. You'll have access to the latest in appropriate computer hardware, software, and field technology - with a student to computer ratio of one-to-one. Of course, you'll have plenty of opportunities to practice your skills in a work-like setting.
A university degree or college diploma in a related discipline, or equivalent education or work experience is erquried for admission to the programs.
