MapSexOffenders.com Now Maps Sex Offenders in Wisconsin   PDF  Print  E-mail
Written by Orbizon, Inc.
Saturday, 03 December 2005
Orbizon, Inc. announced today that it has expanded its Web site, MapSexOffenders.com, to include data for Wisconsin. This interactive site allows users to determine if sex offenders are living near their homes in a very simple easy to use format.

Madison, Wisconsin December 2, 2005 -- Orbizon, Inc. announced today that it has expanded its Web site, www.MapSexOffenders.com, to include data for Wisconsin. This interactive site allows users to determine if sex offenders are living near their homes in a very simple easy to use format.

The state of Wisconsin began providing the sex offender’s complete address making it possible to add them to MapSexOffenders.com. The state website advises: “We hope that by providing this information, and by making it readily available to the public, that it will serve to enhance public awareness about sexual violence in our communities…” MapSexOffenders.com spokesman Mark Olsen agrees. "People have the right to know if sex offenders are living near their families. MapSexOffenders.com makes staying aware easy and interactive.

Launched in July 2005, MapSexOffenders.com now provides free information for 42 states, with plans to provide the information for all 50 states by July 2006. In addition to Wisconsin, Orbizon also just added data for Iowa, Alaska and Michigan.

In accordance with Megan's Law, each state publishes a list of convicted sex offenders for the State Sex Offender Registries. MapSexOffenders.com uses the public information and pinpoints the offender's last known location on the map.

After users type in a location, www.MapSexOffenders.com displays a detailed map showing where sex offenders live in the neighborhood. Users can then click through to obtain more information about the offender, including the nature and severity of the offender's crimes, and if the offender is currently compliant to law.

"By making this information straightforward and available to the general public, we hope to help prevent future abuse by convicted offenders," said Olsen. "We do caution parents that awareness is just the first step, and that they should also talk with their children and take the time to educate them about inappropriate touching and attention from strangers." In addition to the information on sex offenders, the site also provides helpful safety tips and advice for parents.

About MapSexOffenders.com
MapSexOffenders.com is part of Orbizon Inc., a privately owned Web development and technology company based in Orem, Utah committed to building interactive, easy-to-use Web sites that aid users in a variety of ways. All of Orbizon's sites are user friendly and provide a vast amount of information in an accessible format. Orbizon’s sites have been featured on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, ABC, NewsWeek, PCMagazine and many more.
