NAVTEQ Announces Launch of Comprehensive Telecom Offering  E-mail
Written by NAVTEQ
25 October 2005
NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has launched a new suite of telecom data content that is associated with NAVTEQ's NAVSTREETS(R) map database.

Branded Telecom for NAVSTREETS, this new content enables more effective network infrastructure planning and management for all players in the telecom value chain. In addition, this data content may be leveraged for use within business analytics applications in the competitive communications and entertainment services industries.

NAVTEQ has worked with premier providers of telecom content to build its new offering. Associating this telecommunications data with the highly accurate NAVSTREETS map provides users improved precision usability. The data sets include:

-- GeoTel MetroFiber routes: physical location of fiber optic cables

-- Fiber Lit Building Locations: building locations containing fiber

-- Tower Locations: location of wireless towers across the USA

-- Collocations: facilities that house multiple communication service operations

-- Central Office Locations: physical location of switching equipment

-- Wire Center Serving Areas: the geographic representation of the local telephone exchange system

-- Rate Center Boundaries: the geographic representation for the determination of toll rates

-- LATA Boundaries: regulatory boundaries identifying local and long distance carriers

-- PSAP Boundaries: Public Safety Answering Points used for 911 and E911 services

-- U.S. NPA-NXX Boundaries: regulatory boundaries containing US area codes and prefixes

The application and impact of the Telecom for NAVSTREETS data is quite extensive. A few examples of how the data might be used include:

-- Telecom providers could use the Tower Location or GeoTel Microfiber route content -- paired with census data and a GIS application -- to determine where to expand the network infrastructure to service more people and businesses;

-- The efforts to repair a damaged fiber optic network after a natural disaster could be notably accelerated if the repair teams could see and understand where the fiber optic network was located relative to the road network;

-- Existing fiber optic networks to buildings and homes could be identified and utilized by a variety of service providers, making a broader range of data and voice services available to businesses and individuals.

In addition, NAVTEQ provides extensive Point of Interest (POI) and boundary data that enable easy integration and use of the above content within your applications. The POI database contains approximately 1.6 million locations within approximately 50 categories, including financial institutions, hotels and public facilities.

"NAVTEQ's proven capability of associating rich content with its accurate map data provides our customers with the reliability that they have come to expect," commented John MacLeod, Executive Vice President - Global Marketing & Strategy, NAVTEQ. "Our strong alliances, combined with our quality core database, afford us the opportunity to provide a comprehensive data suite that meets the specialized needs of customers in multiple markets."

Telecom for NAVSTREETS is available directly from NAVTEQ as well as through select NAVTEQ resellers. These data sets are available distributed in industry standard formats.
