MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--Oct. 17, 2005-- Simula Labs' Portfolio Company Launches Commercial Support for Apache Maven and Continuum to Deliver Community-Oriented Real-Time Engineering Framework for Hybrid Software Development Environments
Mergere, Inc., an open source software lifecycle management company, today announced subscription-based support, training and consulting for the Apache Software Foundation's Maven and Continuum projects, enabling enterprises to rapidly adopt Community-oriented Real-time Engineering (CoRE) practices to integrate, control and automate hybrid software environments. Maven and Continuum provide build orchestration and management tools that allow enterprises to fully leverage the advantages of agile, open source development methods.
The Apache Maven project is the first open source build system designed to manage software projects in today's dynamic, globally distributed, highly interdependent and heterogeneous development ecosystem. In conjunction with the Apache Continuum project, Maven enables application and IT development organizations to efficiently integrate open, licensed and internally-developed source code.
The latest version of Maven, Maven 2.0, delivers transparency and control during build processes for any Java-based project. Maven 2.0 is based on a unified Project Object Model (POM) architecture, which consists of metadata describing clear, consistent phases for producing project artifacts. Maven 2.0 offers a unique plug-in environment that provides an extensible development framework to support multi-implementation languages for total reusability across projects. It also features new software 'DNA' mapping to track and manage transitive build dependencies across repositories. Continuum enables continuous integration by automating the testing, packaging, installation and deployment phases of the software build. Together, the platform delivers the visibility and management vital to improving code quality and reducing release timelines.
Mergere's support for Maven and Continuum gives businesses access to previously unavailable, commercially supported open source solutions for build automation, development lifecycle management and corporate software compliance. Mergere is backed by Simula Labs, which provides operational and entrepreneurial expertise to open source companies. The executive team is led by Chief Executive Officer Winston Damarillo, Simula Labs' managing partner. Damarillo was previously the founder of Gluecode Software, an open source application infrastructure company, which IBM acquired in May 2005. Also joining Mergere is co-founder and Architect Jason van Zyl, the founder of Apache Maven, who brings over 10 years of enterprise software development experience working in Fortune 500 companies.
"Open source communities have proven they can deliver world-class software, developing as globally distributed teams that work in rapid cycles and building from highly interdependent components. Our goal is to commercialize the technical underpinning that powers open source development," said Winston Damarillo, CEO of Mergere. "Through our CoRE framework, we enable enterprise development teams to implement agile practices to manage, and thereby realize, the innovative advantage of open source development methodologies."
