Once again we are shocked and saddened by the devastation of another natural disaster - that caused by hurricane Katrina.
It is heart-warming to note that URISA members are asking how they can be involved, how they can help with emergency and relief efforts. In response, URISA is increasing efforts to mobilize the deployment of GISCorps volunteers to the region affected by the hurricane. The immediate need is for 5-10 volunteers at this point. These volunteers must have enough GIS experience to work effectively in an emergency situation. Volunteers must have expertise in map production, performing analysis, data management, and etc. Expertise in disaster management and working with GPS equipment is highly desirable.
