To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery expedition from 1803-1806, the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) has assembled a collection of satellite images that provides a contemporary view of the route that Lewis and Clark took from St. Louis, Missouri, to the Pacific Coast.
The twenty-two individual images in the collection are satellite scenes that provide a modern view of historically significant stops along the expedition route - See http://edc.usgs.gov/LewisandClark/
Of particular interest are the pointers to maps of the journey - some amazing graphics that show a variety of perspectives of the Trail. Also of interest, the Lewis & Clrk GNet - http://www.lewisandclarkgnet.org/ - interactive maps, video, journals etc... Lewis and Clark gNET is a collaboration between the University of Nebraska's Peter Kiewit Institute and the National Park Service Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. Students, faculty and staff from The Peter Kiewit Institute are working in partnership with industry, tribal nations and agencies at the federal, state, and local level.
