The Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems provides students with an interdisciplinary background in GIS. The program consists primarily of graduate level courses in Geographic Information Systems with electives in related disciplines such as Biology, Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Landscape Architecture, Public Health, and Urban Planning. The Center offers focused training to County Government employees based on the specific GIS-related needs of their job.
Mrs. Zhaohui Jennifer Fu, is the founding Head of the GIS-RS Center (http://gislab.fiu.edu) at Florida International University (FIU) Library, Adjunct Professor of Environmental Studies, Dept. of FIU and Founding Chair, Certificate in Geographic Information Systems at FIU, School of Arts and Science.
In addition to offering the graducate certificate in GIS, the GIS - RS Center is currently offering Community Outreach Workshops for Miami-Dade County Employees. The County has recognized the importance and need for proficent use in GIS for many operations and as a result has contracted with the GIS RS Center to offer training to employees. The County encourages any employees that have a need for using GIS to take part in the programs - 2 courses/levels are offered:
The User Level 1 course is designed as an "Introduction to GIS" course for county employees with no or only minimal, experience with GIS.
The User Level 2 is designed for county employees who have a need for more advanced uses of GIS. This advanced technical training will further explore the capabilities of the county's robust GIS software
