Conference Report - ESRI User Conference 25… The Numbers

Hello It’s always fun to go over some of the numbers that get mentioned when attending an event like the annual ESRI User Conference. Read on for a pretty detailed list of some of the numbers dropped at the show.
Note: Numbers provided may be approximate or rounded off.
36 – It all began 36 years ago… ESRI is now 36 years old.
25 – This years’ event in San Diego was the 25th annual International ESRI User Conference
26 – The 2006 conference will take place Aug 7-11, 2006 in San Diego, CA
12,000 – Approximate number of registered attendees at UC 25 (unconfirmed)
150 – Number of ESRI Special Achievement awards presented to users from around the Globe. Note: this year’s President Award was presented to NESA (Dutch Utility) for rebuilding their entire organization based on GIS.
9.2 – ArcGIS 9.2 is expected to be launched in mid-2006
7 – After almost 2 years since the last major update, expect ArcPad 7.0 to come in the fall of 2005.
3D – ArcExplorer free viewer will soon be supporting 3D map viewing and Globes
0 (zero) – ESRI is financially stable and has zero debt
14 – Number of new ESRI Press titles recently announced
70 – Total number of books in publication to date from ESRI Press
10% - ESRI boasts a consistent growth rate of 10%
7000 – Number of Colleges and Universities registered as ESRI solution users having educational licenses
2 – Geospatial One-Stop (GOS) 2 has been recently launched to the public
4 – SANZ Inc. recently announced EarthWare 4.0, a scalable, interoperable WMS that enables end-users to interact with their geospatial data using web-based & desktop tools using their imagery archives.
1500 – www.safe.com) contains more than 1500 user-requested enhancements including support for more than 150 data formats. New supported formats include: DWF, Excel, OGC, GML 3.1.1, GTI Viewer. Note: the latest Beta has a KML (Google Earth) writer enabling developers/publishers to create Google Earth service calls.
5.1 – Avenza Systems Inc.’s (www.avenza.com) new product, Geographic Imager introduces image referencing and reprojection capabilities within the Adobe PhotoShop image editor. Users of Geographic Imager now have tremendous image editing tools at their disposal including import, edit, manipulation, reprojection, mosaic, and export of geospatial imagery including aerial photography and satellite imagery.
120 – Number of students at Waterville Elementary that have been involved in the mapping program to date.
1500 – Approximate annual subscription cost $US for the ESRI Developer Network (EDN).
2000 – ArcGlobe now supports JPEG 2000
100,000 – Approximate number of downloads to date of the free ArcReader program
3 – A new dataset, NAIP, from the US Dept. of Agriculture will be distributed in the MrSID MG3 format. (Virginia NAIP data can be found here - http://gis.vcu.edu/datausda.html)

15 – GlobeXplorer serves up 15m land area imagery from EarthSat
12 – GITA recently received a 12 month contract from the DOL to a conduct a project designed to get a grip on understanding and defining the geospatial industry.
3 - Navteq will be hosting their 3rd LBS Challenge starting this fall at the CTIA Wireless Conference. See www.lbschallenge.com - winners to be announced at 2 events early next year (CTIA & 3GSM Europe)
Untouched – GOS is a vast resource of metadata but is relatively untouched and undiscovered by most users. See http://www.geo-one-stop.gov/
