Sensor Technology Systems to Provide Law Enforcement Agency with Counter-Terrorism Capabilities  E-mail

Michigan State Police to Equip Emergency Support Team with Highly Advanced Night Vision Goggles from STS

CINCINNATI--July 21, 2005--Sensor Technology Systems, Inc. (STS), a subsidiary of The O'Gara Group, today announced that it has received an order from the Michigan State Police for advanced AN/PVS-21 Low Profile Night Vision Goggles (LPNVG). The LPNVGs will be used by highly trained officers with the Michigan State Police's Emergency Support Team (similar to S.W.A.T.). This deployment represents a growing trend among law enforcement agencies to adjust strategies and implement counter-terrorism capabilities as a result of Department of Homeland Security initiatives and federal funding.

"Homeland Security at the state and local levels represents a significant market for STS products and technologies. We anticipate additional interest from other law enforcement agencies around the nation as a result of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team's selection of STS products. We are committed to expanding the reach of our technology beyond military applications and this sale is a key milestone in that effort," said Michael (Chip) Lennon, Chief Operating Officer of The O'Gara Group and President of STS.

The AN/PVS-21 Low Profile Night Vision Goggle has a rugged, low profile binocular (or monocular) design that provides unmatched sensor fusion capabilities in diverse and aggressive operational environments. STS's LPNVG is the only production night vision goggle with an integrated Heads-Up Display capability, which allows video and other sensory signals, such as GPS data or the output of a thermal scope, to be presented directly into the operator's night vision scene.

This night vision technology, coupled with its innovative heads-up display capability, will help enhance officers' safety and situational awareness and give officers greater response capability. This could make a significant difference in a critical incident emergency or weapons of mass destruction event.

"With STS's advanced night vision goggles, our abilities to counter terrorism and execute special enforcement operations are significantly improved," stated Lieutenant David Bower, Commander of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team. "By combining multiple technologies, such as night vision and thermal imaging, we are able to enhance officer safety and gain greater access to potentially critical information."

The AN/PVS-21 binocular NVG is the only production NVG with an integrated Heads-Up Display capability for "Sensor Fusion" applications. STS has fielded the AN/PVS-21 with U.S. Military forces, U.K forces, Canadian forces, Italian forces and others. STS is a subsidiary of The O'Gara Group.
