The RIGIS mission is to monitor, coordinate, and provide guidance for activities related to the use of geographic information system technology in Rhode Island, to support initiatives to implement or use this technology, and to manage and provide access to a comprehensive database of geographically referenced information. Plenty of data is available including 1:12,000 true color orthophotography from Summer 2003 with a 1 meter pixel resolution... nice!
The RIGIS data portal is a free service and offers plenty of GIS data to users - all data are NAD 83 and delivered in E00 or SHP format. Upon completing a simple registration to access data (you need to provide name, address, email etc...) you will be presented several ways to view data including themed by State, Town, or Quadsheet.
In March 2005 RIGIS published a comprehensive update to it's catalog. Complete descriptions of the latest updates are found in this useful document. Note, all data updates are also available for delivery on CD-ROM.
Numerous data themes are available including:
Boundaries (municipal, shoreline, villages)
Coastal resources
Cultural data
Demographic data
Emergency (911)
DEM (30m)
facilities
flood
hydrography
Orthophotos (Digital aerial photography available at 200m, 100m, 50m, 20m, 5m, 2m, & 1m pixel resolutions)
