GEO helps to coordinate GIS activities in the state, facilitates communication about GIS issues, and maintains the website that hosts statewide geospatial data for the State of Oregon, the Oregon Geospatial Data Clearinghouse (OGDC). GEO is primarily funded through an assessment paid by all state agencies. Their mission is simple... To provide statewide leadership in promoting the use of GIS technology and to ensure the availability of easily accessible, high quality geographic information.

Responsibilities include:

  • The development, maintenance, and hosting of Oregon's Digital Spatial Data Library
  • Communication of GIS initiatives among local, regional, state, and federal agencies
  • Assistance with coordination of GIS activities for Oregon state agencies

Many data themes are online in the spatial data library http://www.gis.state.or.us/data/index.html
The library is available to users as a web service (interactive webmap) or a download repository (html)

Data themes available include:
lakes
streams
census
geology
DOQ
DRG
PLSS
School Districts
and much more

Most data are available in E00 or SHP format, Lambert Projection NAD83

The Oregon Geospatial Data Clearinghouse (OGDC), part of GEO that is responsible for the DIgital Spatial Data Library, is a component member of the US Census Bureau's State Data Center. The OGDC is also the first all-digital Earth Science Information Center (ESIC). This is a cooperative effort with the US Geological Survey.
