BOULDER, COLORADO-Vexcel Corporation, a global market leader in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) products and services, today announced the release of EarthView (EV) Matrix, the first commercially available Polarimetric SAR software.
EV-Matrix is a software package designed to give the SAR researcher full flexibility in viewing, manipulating and analyzing polarimetric SAR imagery.
"With the availability of upcoming space-borne polarimetric SAR sensors on-board Radarsat-2, PalSAR and TerraSAR-X, the introduction of EV-Matrix is timely," explained Patrick McConnell, President of Vexcel Canada. "EV-Matrix provides the SAR researcher with a robust, professional tool to get the best results possible from their polarimetric SAR data. EV-Matrix incorporates enhanced capabilities for a number of application areas such as monitoring wetlands, assessing crop yield, sea-ice classification, detection of point targets and forest management. An exciting new application in the near future is polarimetric InSAR and Vexcel has already developed expertise in that area."
EV-Matrix provides tools for data ingest, speckle filtering, classification, decomposition and rapid display of multi-channel polarimetric SAR data. Areas of interest may be defined using vector editing tools, or may be initialized from external files. Routines to calculate various polarimetric parameters such as co-pol and cross-pol signatures, channel histograms, degree of polarization, entropy, alpha angle and anisotropy are readily available for both point and distributed targets. In addition, the package provides an interface for user defined mathematical combinations of polarimetric channels. The addition of EV-Matrix into the EarthView(R) family of products gives the SAR research community a complete suite of SAR and Hyperspectral image analysis products to advance the technologies into the future.
