Every year, GfK MACON check and update their digital maps of Europe. The updates of the administrative and postal maps of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH) has already been completed. They are available as of now in the formats of all standard GIS.
In eastern Germany in particular, the number of communities has been changing constantly since reunification, but not in any uniform manner. The state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania alone has 128 changes to record, while Saxony-Anhalt has 94. There was a reduction of six in the number of communities in Thuringia while overall in Germany, a total of 223 communities were dissolved. Changes in the communities usually result in changes to the postcode areas.
Most of the changes in Switzerland were on a community level. A total of 57 communities were dissolved and eight new ones created. Six new 4-digit postcode areas were established in Austria.
In GIS, digital maps form the basis of all sales planning issues, market and customer analyses and location planning. Updated maps are an absolute must here.
