Garland Power & Light in Production with ArcFM E-mail
Written by Miner & Miner

Texas municipal utility goes live with Miner & Miner’s MultiSpeak GIS Solution

Fort Collins, CO -- Garland Power & Light (GP&L), a locally owned and controlled not-for-profit municipal utility, is currently in production with ArcFM. GP&L serves nearly 68,000 customers, making them the third largest municipal utility in Texas.

Garland Power & Light sought an integrated GIS to alleviate the burdens of working with disparate data and producing paper maps from multiple systems. They chose ArcFM to provide an efficient, cost-effective solution for streamlining facility and asset management.

GP&L selected Miner & Miner’s (M&M) standard Multispeak solution, which allowed them to implement core functionality inexpensively and prepare for easy integration with future applications including work management, outage management, distribution planning, and CIS. The project began in September 2004 with data migration from shapefiles and an Access database to the geodatabase. M&M facilitated on-site training and completed a formal rollout of the application in just over three months. GP&L went into production in December 2004.

“Choosing to go with Miner & Miner’s ArcFM was an excellent cost-saving move for GP&L,” said Michael Young, GP&L’s GIS Services Supervisor. “We chose to take the out-of-the-box approach to implementing ArcFM. This allowed for faster deployment, especially since the bulk of our data was already captured in shapefiles and an Access database.”

“ArcFM has given us the capabilities to manage the data and facilities, while also providing a solid platform for future expansion. ArcFM was a good move for us,” said Young.

Miner & Miner (M&M), a Telvent company, is a world leader in the development and implementation of GIS software for utilities. M&M's ArcFM Solution and extended services assist electric, gas, water, and wastewater utilities in increasing productivity, lowering costs, and improving services by allowing them to effectively manage spatial information. Founded in 1946 as a full-service electrical engineering firm, M&M has been a business partner of www.miner.com.

Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company, specializes in high value-added solutions for four specific industrial sectors (Energy, Traffic, Transport and Environment) in Europe, North America, Latin America and China www.telvent.com.
