A number of companies elected to use GITA Conference 28 as the forum to make some important product, services, and business announcements. Many have already been published and archived here at GISuser.com, however, there were also many announcements made that haven’t been widely distributed yet. Read on for just a sampling of some of the news we picked up on in Denver.

Hitachi Software
has released an on-demand GIS ASP that will be billed as iSpatial. This ASP is powered by the company’s Any*GIS application platform. The idea is to enable utilities and government users to implement full-scale enterprise GIS functionality at a relatively low annual subscription fee. Hitachi will configure and host the GIS functionality as well as the management of all maintenance and upgrades. See http://www.hsgt.com

TAG – The Asset Group – announced the availability of “TAG Solutions”, a comprehensive product suite that consists of IT solutions that are pre-integrated and pre-configured to support5 lifecycle asset tracking. For more info see http://www.tag-theassetgroup.com

Graphic Technologies Inc (GTI) out of Madison Alabama uses an official press meeting to announce their competitive upgrade for viewers campaign. Users are encouraged to upgrade their current viewer to GTViewer for no cost except for an annual maintenance contract of $75. Charlie Martin of GTI boasted about the advantages of GTViewer. These include; a flexible platform, short learning curve, speed, enterprise friendly, and customizability. See http://www.gti-us.com

Har*GIS announced the release of a new software application designed to increase efficiencies in the maintenance of distribution assets. The solution, known as Asset Maintainer is based on the popular TruckMap* solution and leverages the data compression capabilities found in TruckMap*. See http://www.har-gis.com/

Cartasite, a new player on the block exhibited at GITA 28. The Denver-based company boasts a geospatial intelligence system that is based on Microsoft’s MapPoint technology as the visualization engine. The solution they showed off was based on a recent 6 month pilot project for a large truck rental company. The solution known as Data2Map presents geospatial and enterprise data on any specific asset and provided an operational view of the entire enterprise allowing the client to monitor its vehicles and maximize revenue collection. See http://www.cartasite.com

Texas-based MapFrame Corp. announced this week that their FieldSmart mobile end-user count has reached an impressive milestone of 20,000 users. MapFrame’s suite of software apps is an efficient solution for moving GIS data into a field environment, particularly for highly specific work processes. See http://www.mapframe.com

Blue Marble Geographics (Gardiner Maine) made the announcement that an off the shelf version of the popular & award winning BeyondGeo is coming very soon. Known as BeyondGeo in the Box, the solution is a complete re-write of the previous map server solution and is OGC compliant, scalable, and cost effective. The primary product will be officially known as Geo MapServer and will be a complete off-the-shelf Internet Map server (IMS). See http://www.bluemarblegeo.com or http://www.beyondgeo.com

INOIC, a leader in interoperable LBS solutions, announced that the location-based OGC solution affectionately knows as LOBOS now supports routing, geocoding, and reverse geocoding functions within Oracle 10g application server. The company’s RedSpider LOBOS has been implemented in the largest 3G telecommunications network and serves more than 2 million users in 11 countries in Europe. See http://www.ionicsoft.com & http://www.ionicenterprise.com

Real-time tracking with Tracking Server was announced by ESRI. The solution, developed by Northrop-Grumman, enables the integration of real-time data and GIS facilitating better decision making, and efficient data sharing by users. See http://www.esri.com

Not really “news” but rather “cool”, the crew from Layton Graphics Inc was showing off MAP2PDF and MAP2PDF for ArcGIS. The very easy to use solution enables users to quickly create intelligent PDFs for publishing and archiving. The resulting maps enable the display of geographical layers, embedded feature class attributes and best of all, the map’s coordinates and projection information is retained and displayed. See http://www.layton-graphics.com/map2pdf.html

At conference 28 GITA announced their Member-Get-A-Member campaign. The objective is to recruit a new member to GITA. People who recruit 5 new members by Dec 31, 2005 will receive a free one-year membership to GITA. Recruit just one new member and you’ll be entered in a draw for an Apple iPod. See http://www.gita.org

GITA also reported that the 2005 Geospatial Technology Report is now bigger than ever, with this latest market research study sharing the findings obtained from some 249 participants. The report features trend analysis, forecasting, as well as numerous graphics, cross-tabulations, and trend lines.

Business news… Autodesk Inc. has announced that the City of Terrell, Texas has implemented the Autodesk Public Works Solutions and integrated it with Oracle 10g. The solution enables city engineers to more effectively manage, create, and share location and structural data. See. http://www.autodesk.com

Tier3 has developed a proprietary, platform independent data conflation kit to spatially rectify existing GIS facility data to Tele Atas’ higher accuracy landbase. The highly automated solution enables telecom and utilities to improve the spatial accuracy of their existing GIS data. See http://www.tier3-inc.com

Hitachi Software and Global Technology (HSGT) has announced new Any*GIS GeoAdapter support. With this release, Any*GIS users will be able to seamlessly access and update data in the most recent data formats from ESRI (ArcSDE 9), GE Smallworld (Smallworld 4), and Autodesk (Map 3D). For those that need to view imagery (particularly within Autodesk) support for the raster catalog service of ArcSDE will be a welcomed addition. See http://www.hsgt.com

TAG has been selected by the City of Las Vegas, NV to manage the implementation of its Public Works department environmental division’s strategic IT plan.
