Implementation Includes ArcFM Software, Implementation Services, Training, and Support
Redlands, California-PacifiCorp has selected ESRI's ArcGIS 9 software suite for its enterprise GIS foundation. The implementation will provide a common, open geographic information system (GIS) database accessible by all business units within PacifiCorp. In addition, the company is licensing Miner & Miner's ArcFM software.
The multiyear, multiphase implementation is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2005. Miner & Miner will provide its ArcFM software and additional application development and consulting services. ESRI and ABB will work together to ensure full integration between ESRI software and existing ABB software already deployed at PacifiCorp. "We needed to centralize several isolated information systems into an enterprise foundation that not only integrates databases and applications but also provides a single point of entry for other systems such as work management, customer information systems, and more," says Brad Williams of PacifiCorp. "ESRI's proven technology, open standards, and best-of-breed partners were all factors in choosing ArcGIS 9 and ArcFM software." "ESRI is excited to form a relationship with PacifiCorp to provide GIS foundation architecture to meet their specific needs and requirements," says Eric Bishop, regional sales manager, ESRI. "ESRI technology will provide a true enterprise GIS integrated with PacifiCorp's corporate information technology infrastructure. The result will be improved decision making, enhanced coordination, efficiency, and communication."
PacifiCorp is one of the lowest cost electricity producers in the United States, providing approximately 1.6 million customers with reliable, efficient energy. PacifiCorp operates as Pacific Power in Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, and California; and as Utah Power in Utah and Idaho.
The enterprise GIS foundation will include the full suite of ArcGIS 9 software (ArcInfo, ArcIMS, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Engine, and ArcGIS Server). ArcFM software will provide industry specific energy applications. Engineering, operations, survey and mapping, land, environment, planning, field operations, and other departments will utilize the solution. Core applications include transmission and distribution design and estimating, field asset maintenance and inspection, vegetation management, joint use management, real estate management, crew scheduling and dispatch, street light maintenance, and much more.
The implementation will simplify the current information system environment by replacing legacy systems and providing modern interfaces to the customer information, supply chain, engineering analysis, and electric outage management. In addition to eliminating redundant data entry, the GIS foundation will allow for improved graphic design editing and field updates, improved customer service, and enhanced overall system reliability.
