Autodesk Launches New Version of DWF Composer and DWF Viewer with the Most Advanced Review and Markup Capabilities to Date for Sharing Design Documents
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., March 15, 2005 — Today Autodesk announced the newest version of Autodesk® DWF™ Composer and DWF Viewer, the company’s revision and viewing software to share rich data DWF design files electronically. The latest version includes roundtrips markup and revision capabilities for 3D files created in Autodesk design applications, a print preview function and improved viewing features.
Autodesk DWF Customer J.P. Jones from Macerich, a large owner and operator of regional shopping malls remarked, "With the new DWF Composer, our leasing managers will be able to mark up designs and demonstrate the potential of our retail spaces to prospective tenants during the lease negotiation process. The ability to markup and revise lease plans and easily share the DWF files will enable us to update our lease plans weekly instead of quarterly which provides a more accurate picture of our business."
Once designs are created, customers can securely share their designs digitally as DWF™ – the small, secure file format, ideally suited for sharing design files. The new versions of Autodesk DWF Composer and Autodesk DWF Viewer software provide even more powerful ways for project team members to efficiently share complex project information across teams in different locations and coordinate design reviews within tight schedules. Autodesk has enhanced DWF Viewer’s viewing and printing capabilities to support 3D DWF files published out of nearly every Autodesk design application, new MapBooks published out of Autodesk Map 3D 2006, a new print preview function, and access to more design intelligence including user-defined block attributes published from the AutoCAD 2006 family of products.
Autodesk DWF Composer includes all the 2D and 3D viewing and printing capabilities in DWF Viewer, and adds additional review, mark up, and revision capabilities. In the review phase, DWF Composer now supports DXF™ files with the included Autodesk DWG Viewer component and Inventor files with the included Inventor View application. New custom symbols have also been added to DWF Composer’s markup library, providing new ways for customers to annotate information in the office or out in the field including the ability to import block object data created in AutoCAD 2006. A snapshot tool enabling users to capture any onscreen information and bring it into the DWF file, to create a single file containing all project-related information is another powerful new tool. And in the revision phase, DWF Composer markup integration has been extended beyond the AutoCAD family of products to also include Autodesk Revit Building 8 and Autodesk Revit Structure.
"Over the past year, we have seen a significant increase in the number of DWF downloads, now at 5 million, which is a testament to the increasing adoption of the DWF file format becoming the de-facto standard in file creation and sharing in the design industry, commented Amar Hanspal, vice president of Autodesk Collaboration Services. He continued, "The DWF file format was developed specifically for the design industry and offers technical advantages that other formats do not such as smaller file sizes and a high fidelity format that preserves the data integrity of CAD and 3D models. These advantages enable design professionals to increase productivity and share files that are more precise, which results in more accurate designs."
