The MIT/MassGIS Digital Orthophoto Project E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (GISuser editor)
24 January 2005
The Planning Support Systems Group of the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning has been developing tools to access digital orthophotos and their metadata since 1995.

This portal provides access to numerous orthophoto collections including a seamless interface to MassGIS (.5 m grayscale),  the MIT ortho browser, and  coastal orthophotos (1 m color).

In addition to providing access to some fine orthophoto web services, this resource has a great collection of links that will direct you to other related orthophoto colelctions and some useful tools.

About the MIT Orthophoto Browser - Through this web interface you may view a set of digital orthophotos for eastern Massachusetts at several different zoom levels, with pan, zoom, and download functionality.

This site is a node on the National GeoSpatial Data Clearinghouse, part of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. The site was developed at M.I.T. by the Planning Support Systems Group of the Urban Studies and Planning Department using the facilities of the Department's Computer Resource Lab and digital orthophotos provided by MassGIS.

The MIT Orthophoto Browser - each cell represents an 8,000x8,000 pixel digital orthophoto image.
