Monday, 10 January 2005 Creation, management, access, and distribution of large geospatial imagery products in MrSID and JPG2000 formats is what users will find in this latest product release just announced by LizardTech. MrSID will mean much more than compressed aerial or satellite imagery for users selecting GeoExpress as their image management tool of choice.
Offered in several flavors, GeoExpress 5 is available to users in the following purchase options:
unlimited standalone - offering unlimited MrSID and JPG 2000 encoding as well as image manipulation
encoding bundles - bundles of 100GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB
GeoExpress Lite - image manipulation tools (for SID and JPG 2000 imagery )but no encoding functionality
So, what can users do with GeoExpress 5.0?
Image manipulation like mosaiking, reprojection, tiling, cropping and more
combine and reproject data from different sources and projections into a seamless mossaic - this includes reprojecting raw imagery or JPG 2000 data to MrSID format.
ensure your data complies with NATO and NGA data specifications and standards
Specifiy different image compression ratios for different areas of your dataset. Useful to preserve the integrity of data for areas of interest, or distorting sensitive or classified data.
Use one of many user defined image profiles
Designed for interoperability with industry leading products from ESRI, Leica Geosystems, Autodesk, Intergraph, MapInfo, Bentley, GE/Smallworld.
Supports the management and manipulation of all Generation 2 and 3 MrSID imagery.
Here's a real world example for a typical use:
City X has an existing composite MrSID Generation 3 (MG3) mosaic of MrSID imagery created from 100 smaller MG3 images compressed losslessly. The city can define a rectangle that outlines the area of construction and specify a lossless compression ration in this area and a 20:1 compression for the remainder of the image in order to reduce the file size of the deliverable.
Example 2... A data provider would like to load a mosaic of original TIFF files into GeoExpress, select a region, apply a 100:1 compression ratio over the selected region and 20:1 compression for the remainder of the mosaic... no problem with GeoExpress 5.0!
