Maptech's Outdoor Navigator E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (GISuser editor)

Maptech's Outdoor Navigator provides users with accessibility to some 60,000 topos and charts. Pocket PC and Palm device users can add this software to their collection for a mere $19.95 and get this... once you have a licensed copy of the software you can access all the doanloadable data you need! Throw in a hefty memory card, a GPS, and a dry bag and you have a very affordable outdoor navigation solution.

Some features:

  • GPS is optional. You can use Outdoor Navigator just like a paper map, but with hundreds of instantly accessible maps and charts. Or, connect a GPS receiver and you'll have a powerful moving map display showing your position and key GPS navigation data.
  • Outdoor Navigator includes easy download access to over 58,000 USGS topographic maps covering the continental US. These include all the available 1:24,000, 1:25,000, 1:63,360, and 1:100,000 detail map scales.
  • Outdoor Navigator includes easy dowload access to over 2,000 NOAA nautical charts covering the US. These include all available chart scales with the best detail.
  • In the near future, Outdoor Navigator will be compatible with PC based smartphones

This product is likely the best Christmas present under $20 you'll find... what a score!

True outdoor enthusiasts and hikers will be interested in Maptech's Terrain Navigator 50/50 - all the topos and software to hike the highest peak in each of the 50 states.
