GIS Software and Training for K-12 Schools - December 2004  E-mail
Written by NDGIS
08 December 2004
The North Dakota Career and Technical Education Department (CTE) has made arrangements with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) to provide free GIS software to all K-12 public and private schools in North Dakota, including ten North Dakota colleges.

The statewide license includes ArcView 3.3 for Windows, ArcView 9.x for Windows, ArcView 3.0 for Macintosh, and the ArcAtlas data set. The software is free to all North Dakota schools even if they have not participated in training provided through CTE.

CTE coordinates training designed to teach North Dakota educators how to teach GIS as a standalone High School class. The first training was held in July 2004 for nine North Dakota educators. More training is planned for Summer 2005. Dates, locations, and additional information about the training will soon be available on the CTE web site.

The training and software is available to any North Dakota public or private school. The modular design of this program will facilitate schools to incorporate GIS units in other discipline areas such as math, science, geography, and agriculture classes. Modules could be utilized in middle school classrooms.

For more information on the GIS software, GIS training, or other training available to North Dakota educators through North Dakota Career and Technical Education, please contact:
