(Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions, an award-winning leader in the information technology industry, celebrated Geographic Information System (GIS) Day on November 16 by hosting a GIS Concepts Course for Developers.
The firm offered this course at its Camp Hill, Pa., headquarters to Commonwealth agencies and local clients including the Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation, Department of Agriculture, the Game Commission, and State Farm Insurance.
GIS Day is an annual grassroots event where users and vendors of GIS open their doors to schools, businesses, and the general public to showcase real-world applications of this important technology. GIS Day at GeoDecisions featured an overview of geospatial technology and a discussion of the wide applications of GIS across a range of business areas.
“Because of the wide scope of the material, I'm confident that everyone left the class with a better grounding in GIS technology,” stated Stephen Korzekwa, a senior developer with GeoDecisions. “My hope is that we provided a broader knowledge of what can be accomplished with GIS.”
This year marked GeoDecisions’ first time hosting GIS day. The national event is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the Association of American Geographers, University Consortium for Geographic Information Science, the United States Geological Survey, the Library of Congress, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett–Packard, and ESRI.
GeoDecisions’ experienced staff of professional consultants, analysts, and developers supports clients across the United States. Fundamental to the company’s award-winning approach is the integration of spatial information to empower existing systems and processes. GeoDecisions’ philosophy is based on an enterprise wide approach to the integration of diverse information technologies, data formats, and systems.
