Company announces continued adoption of GeoPlatform, over 40 sites to date
13 October 2004 – Geographic information specialist GDC (www.graphdata.co.uk) today announced three further customers of its interactive geo-statistical presentation tool GeoReveal, launched this summer. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council and Milton Keynes Observatory are all using GeoReveal to quickly and easily graphically represent the relationship between data and geography. With a further six evaluations underway GDC expects more sales to be agreed in the near future.
“GeoReveal presents a cost-effective way of making statistical information about locations easier to understand and interact with. This kind of solution has long eluded the GIS and statistical communities,” explained Steven Feldman, managing director of GDC. “With GeoReveal, for the first time, even non-technical users can deliver intelligence about geographic trends and share the results internally or externally.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council chose GeoReveal to deliver their interactive statistics online service and present various repositories of data, including Census 2001 statistics, Borough performance by Ward, plus a variety of demographic information: http://www2.rotherham.gov.uk/statsmaps/main.htm
Richard Copley, GIS Manager, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, explains: “GeoReveal has enabled us to easily turn complex raw data into valuable management information which is understood by decision makers at all levels. We can now interrogate data graphically and spot trends, allowing us to designate resource across the Borough effectively and share data with other agencies and Partnerships. GIS and statistical information has been plucked from the sidelines and brought centre-stage to help policy makers in their strategic planning.”
Copley continued: “Previously, we’ve tried turning data into useful maps and graphics but they were static documents, difficult to publish and could not be interrogated. GeoReveal solves the problem of being able to produce interactive, thematic mapping both quickly and easily.”
Steven Feldman concluded: “This year’s AGI conference hot topics include interoperability, delivering service improvements and accessing geographic information via portals and networks. GeoReveal was created with these issues in mind. By using open standards and e-GIF compliant formats, GeoReveal enables geo-statistical presentations to be created from any data types and accessible by all.”
GeoPlatform new contracts
GDC also announced four further customers of its GeoPlatform; South Northamptonshire County Council, Allerdale Borough Council, Pembrokeshire County Council and Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council. This brings the total number of local government installed sites to 43, as authorities continue to recognise the benefits of exploiting spatial data to help deliver e-Government initiatives. GeoPlatform provides the geographic infrastructure for organisations seeking to manage and share GI data in order to improve internal operations and inform strategic decisions.
About GeoReveal
Based on a simple wizard-driven interface, GeoReveal guides users through a number of straightforward steps creating professional results without the need for web or graphic design skills. Neither vertical or vendor specific, GeoReveal provides valuable analysis to any organisation which needs to consider its data in relation to geography and share this intelligence internally and externally via the web, intranet or portable devices. For example, insurance professionals can reveal overviews of geographical accumulations; utilities can present service level or availability information with customers displayed specifically for their area, or the marketing sector can analyse lifestyle trends by region. For local government, GeoReveal is census ready and includes Local Authority boundary data. GeoReveal can also connect to any XML- enabled database to display live data.
