CERES has a goal to identify and promote solutions for statewide digital lands information systems. California Resources Agency and the USGS have formed partnership in pursuit of the National Map while they also work closely with the California Geographic Information Association to facilitate the operation of regional GIS councils.
Citing some accomplishments, CERES has completed the California Spatial Information Library (www.gis.ca.gov) - aka. CASIL. Users have access to frequently needed data layers including DOQQs, DRGs, LandSAT and SPOT imagery. Using the DRG Download Service, this site provides an interface for downloading USGS DRGs for California. These are available by USGS Quad, at the 1:250k, 1:100k, and 1:24k scales. See http://ims.gis.ca.gov/website/casil/drgquads/viewer.htm
Of interest, CERES has recently completed the first assembly of a statewide county plan data set. This data set is available at no cost on-line at http://gis.ca.gov/catalog/ under the California Legacy Project Data Collection.
The California Environmental Information Catalog is an online directory for reporting and discovery of information resources for California. Participants include cities, counties, utilities, state and federal agencies, private businesses and academic institutions that have spatial and other types of data resources. The Catalog has been developed through a collaborative effort with the California Geographic Information Association, California Environmental Resources Evaluation System, and the Federal Geographic Data Committee.
