BlueSky Telemetry Global tracking Solutions E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (GISuser editor)
21 September 2004
BlueSky Telemetry™ specializes in developing customer focused wildlife telemetry GPS collars that are innovative, lightweight, and cost effective. Combined with UHF radio modem technologies, GSM mobile phone technologies and remote drop off units, data stored on the GPS collars can be recovered either physically or remotely from virtually anywhere. The solution has been extended to ArcView GIS users (3x) via the Home Range Extension (HRE)

HRE extends ArcView®GIS to analyse the home range of animals. The program has been written for novice GIS users who already understand basic wildlife telemetry issues and who are familiar with the concept of a "home range". HRE was designed specifically for use with Lotek GPS collars and therefore has a direct import filter for Lotek data files (.DAT and .MDB files).

Note: Home Range Extension" (HRE) for ArcView®GIS was developed by Arthur R. Rodgers and Angus P. Carr at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources' Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research in Thunder Bay, Ontario - See http://blue.lakeheadu.ca/hre/

Combined with UHF radio modem technologies, GSM mobile phone technologies and remote drop off units, data stored on the GPS collars can be recovered either physically or remotely from virtually anywhere in the world. All species of mammal greater than 15kg can be fitted with these advanced collars.

A comprehensive database of over 1200 wildlife telemetry (including GPS and ARGOS) papers published since 1980. This database is updated regularly every week, and the information is provided free of charge, It is the aim of BlueSky Telemetry™ to provide the agricultural and wildlife research scientist with a complete solution for all their wildlife telemetry needs.
