Herndon, VA – February 12, 2013 – [acronym] Magazine, a DLT sponsored publication, is pleased to announce the winners and runners up of the second annual [acronym] Magazine Public Sector CAD Awards & Expo. This virtual event was held online on Wednesday, February 6, 2013.

Launched last year, the awards honor the most creative and innovative users of digital design technology in the public sector. In particular, the awards look for ways in which technologies such as computer-aided design (CAD), visualization, and modeling software are transforming the way government agencies improve the performance of their agency and enhance the delivery of citizen-centric services.

The contest opened in the fall of 2012 and welcomed numerous entries from state, local and federal government agencies, as well as the contractors who have supported public sector projects.

“Each of this year’s CAD Awards winners and finalists had a unique problem to solve. They needed to improve efficiencies, do more with less, deliver value to citizens and their constituents, and they all came together with their teams, took risks and created change to accomplish those goals,” said Caron Beesley, editor in chief, [acronym] Magazine. “Through digital design innovation and a commitment to excellence, our winners exemplify how digital design technologies are transforming the way government agencies use these tools to improve the performance of their agency and enhance their mission.”

The winners of the second annual [acronym] Magazine CAD Award are:

State and Local Category

· Winner: Iowa Department of Corrections

Achievement: Iowa Department of Corrections locks down infrastructure costs with Building Information Modeling (BIM).

· First Runner Up: Peggy Simpson, Engineering Technician, Great River Energy

Achievement: Teamwork and initiative save’s electric utility thousands of dollars and ensures design specification accuracy.

· Second Runner Up: Frank DeSanto, Senior Civil Engineering Technician, Pasco County, Florida.

Achievement: Pasco County responds quicker to resident’s flood management issues using the power of AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Federal Government / Contractors Category

· Winner: Suresh Neelapala, Senior Architect, Lockheed Martin / Federal Aviation Administration, Washington, D.C.

Achievement: Proof-of-concept project lets FAA share its vision of a lifecycle BIM implementation – design through decommissioning.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the event provided attendees with the opportunity to learn and explore ways in which their agencies can utilize design tools – right from their desktop. Speakers included AutoCAD expert, Lynn Allen; Donnie Gladfelter (also known as The CAD Geek); Shaan Hurley, Autodesk Technologist for the Office of the CTO, and more.

The event also featured an industry expo with sponsor representatives from DLT Solutions, CADD Microsystems, CADSoft Consulting, Synergis and IMAGINiT Technologies.
