Sponsorship seeks to advance education and research in flight technology and engineering

RICHMOND HILL, ON, January 21, 2013 Applanix, a leader in products and solutions for mobile mapping and positioning, today announced it is sponsoring the University of Toronto Aeronautics Team (UTAT), a group of over 100 undergraduate and graduate engineering students with a passion for aerospace design. The UTAT participates in national and international competition related to the aerospace industry and is committed to providing a venue for students to challenge themselves and further their personal development in a competitive and social environment.

“The University of Toronto Aeronautics Team relies on the generous support of companies like Applanix to make its vision a reality. The program continues to thrive and our 100-plus members are extremely grateful for the learning opportunity they are given,” said Mina Mitry, president, UTAT. “Applanix’ sponsorship is vital in making our program the success that it is.”

“Applanix believes that helping students and their schools stay on the leading edge in the sciences is extremely important. The University of Toronto’s engineering program has always been an exceptional one, showing a very high level of understanding and dedication to the study of aeronautics,” said Joe Hutton, the Director of Airborne Products for Applanix.

In addition to powered and unpowered aircraft competitions, the UTAT in 2012-2013 is competing in three new competitions in the areas of Rocketry and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The team is responsible for the design, construction, testing, presentation, and technical white papers associated with their product for each respective competition. Beyond competitions, the team is also active in the community by promoting engineering design and the aerospace industry.
