A great map starts with a great cartographic layout. Poor cartography can blur the message you are trying to convey.

To help you create well-designed maps, Esri will host the live training seminar Layout Design Essentials for ArcGIS 10.1 on December 6, 2012.

Most ArcGIS users click the ArcMap Layout button to start making a map. This seminar will take you beyond just working with the Layout button by demonstrating other methods you can use to create visually appealing map layouts in ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop.

The presenter will demonstrate tips and tricks for setting page and printer properties; working with data frame properties; incorporating basemaps and inset maps; editing graphics; and modifying map elements such as north arrows, legends, and scale bars.

After viewing this seminar, you will understand how to do the following:

· Add inset maps and extent indicators to your map

· Use dynamic text

· Insert and edit graphics in your map using the Graphics toolbar

· Add, modify, and align your map elements

The seminar will be valuable to ArcGIS users who want to improve the cartographic quality of their maps for local government; mapping agencies; and transportation, utility, and many other industries.
