Redlands, California-With the new release of ArcGIS 9, ESRI offers educational training to meet the dynamic range of users' needs.
Instructor-led training, Web courses, and an instructional workbook all convey the fundamental concepts of geographic information system (GIS) technology and introduce the new functionality contained in ArcGIS 9.
Instructor-led training courses offer a classroom environment that combines personal delivery, hands-on experience, and class participation to provide a complete learning experience. What's New in ArcGIS 9, a three-day, instructor-led course, unwraps the new functionality available in ArcGIS 9 including the new geoprocessing environment, enhancements to the geodatabase, and the new usability found in various ArcGIS 9 software extensions. Those who already have a working knowledge of ArcGIS concepts and the geodatabase are able to learn about new tools, labeling and annotation enhancements, batch processing and scripting, advanced modeling, and many other developments.
For those who need flexibility in their training schedule and location, the ESRI Virtual Campus offers Web-based training that includes interactive exercises, conceptual material, and instructional resources in an accessible, convenient location. The new Virtual Campus course Learning ArcGIS 9 is intended for those new to GIS technology as well as those new to ArcGIS software. Participants learn the GIS analytical process and work with a variety of ArcGIS 9 tools to solve realistic problems. Those completing the course will understand basic GIS concepts and the range of core ArcGIS 9 software capabilities and tools.
Another Virtual Campus course, Geoprocessing with ArcGIS 9 (for ArcInfo), teaches experienced GIS and ArcGIS users a practical approach to using ArcGIS 9 geoprocessing tools and models to accomplish common GIS tasks. Participants become familiar with the new geoprocessing environment as they employ geoprocessing tools and techniques to manage and analyze data.
For self-study learning, ESRI Press published Getting to Know ArcGIS Desktop: Basics of ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo, Second Edition, Updated for ArcGIS 9 Desktop. The book is a comprehensive update to the best-selling workbook. The second edition revises existing material and adds new exercises, based on ArcGIS 9, that take readers through the principles of GIS and teach them the mechanics of using the software. Software exercises lead readers through a variety of areas including map symbology, data overlay, map projection, and data conversion. New ArcGIS 9 capabilities, such as ModelBuilder technology, enable users to take advantage of the graphical environment for representing, automating, and solving spatial analysis problems.
