Bethesda, MD, 30-Nov-2012 – Spatial Insights announces the release of their updated Education Data suite, an attribute-rich, precision-geocoded database of academic institutions. “K to 12” consists of elementary and secondary schools, and “Higher Ed” includes college and university locations.
Data for the more than 103,800 elementary and secondary schools was assembled from annual government surveys. Among its more than 500 attributes, K to 12 includes student enrollment by grade, student-teacher ratio, and gender and ethnicity of the student population for each grade level. Specialty information provides the count of students eligible to receive free or reduced lunches plus migrant enrollment.
The Higher Ed dataset features over 9,800 colleges and universities nationwide. In addition to name and address fields, attributes include type of school (public, private, or nonprofit), number of years (four-year or two-year), and degrees offered (bachelors, masters, associates), enrollment, and tuition fees.
Delivered in GIS -ready formats, the Education Data are widely used for market research, planning, site selection and related real estate applications. The data are available nationwide, by state, region, MSA, or county. Corresponding CartoUS School District Boundaries are also available.

“The wealth of attributes related to enrollment and ethnicity can provide valuable insights into the demographics and lifestyle characteristics of an area” said Don Segal, president of Spatial Insights. “Working with updated K to 12 and Higher Ed data allows our clients to make better informed decisions.”
