What do the City of Amsterdam, the USGS, and the City of Toronto have in common? Well, besides having awesome web sites, these are all clients and users of Avenza Systems’ MAPublisher software, a tool that enables them to author, create and share awesome maps with the public. No doubt if you’re in the mapping industry then you are already familiar with MAPublisher (if not then you really have been missing out!). The company recently released R 9.1 of their flagship product and something that WILL get your attention is the newly added capability to export your beautiful maps as webmaps to HTML5… yes indeed!!

This from the announcement of the release of this latest update – Avenza Releases MAPublisher 9.1 for Adobe Illustrator … MAP Web Author now has the ability to export HTML5 web maps (in addition to the already available Flash output), which are suitable for mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. “Map makers and webdesigners alike can extend their HTML5 web maps to smartphone and tablet browsers without the need for additional plug-ins,” said Ted Florence, President of Avenza.  Other new features in MAPublisher 9.1:

  • MAP Web Author HTML5 export
  • MAPublisher LabelPro redesigned interface, new label filters feature, and improved performance
  • Various user interface and performance enhancements to improve usability.
