DMK Associates Brings Leica Geosystems C5 Scanner to SW Florida E-mail
Written by Leica Geosystems Inc.
27 June 2012

(Norcross, Ga., 26 July 2012)
DMK Associates, Inc., a 28-person full-service consulting firm serving counties and municipalities in Southwest Florida, recently established the region's first dedicated laser scanning crew and chose Leica's new ScanStation C5 laser scanner for daily operations. "The C5 was a good fit for us," said DMK President and CEO Karl Kokomoor, PE, "It's a great value as is, we're very comfortable with Leica's rugged equipment, and the C5 can be upgraded when we need more capacity—it was the best choice for us and is really working out well."

Kokomoor says that the local offices of some national consulting firms have been using laser scanners for a few years. "But we're the first to establish a field crew and full office capacity to process point clouds into the models and data that our clients need. Cities and other clients are beginning to ask for scanned data, and it was important to us to stay ahead of the market."

One of DMK Associate's concentrations is forensic surveying, and two early projects prove that scanning is extremely useful in this specialized sector. "We were able to scan a paver block parking system that was slipping badly, and create maps and displays that isolated the problem areas to help guide mediation and mitigation," explains Kokomoor, "And we've also scanned a large deck on three occasions—by comparing scans over time, we've precisely located the areas of uneven settlement, and can now design a cost-effective solution."

The ScanStation C5 comes standard as a high-performance, cost-effective scanner that works well for entry-level teams and early adopters like DMK Associates. As the need for scanning data expands, the C5 can be upgraded to add high-resolution imaging and video, dual-axis compensation, increased range and higher speeds, and other advanced capacities. It is proving to be one of the best available options for consulting and contracting firms adding scanning capacity.

"When a progressive firm like DMK Associates chooses our equipment, it vindicates all the time we spend on research and development," said Leica Geosystems Southeast Regional Sales Manager René Van Kersbergen, "We know that scanning is a vital technology for keeping Florida's public infrastructure in good repair, and we're glad we have a scanner, the ScanStation C5, that works well as a gateway instrument and adds features as they're needed."
