Kokomoor says that the local offices of some national consulting firms have been using laser scanners for a few years. "But we're the first to establish a field crew and full office capacity to process point clouds into the models and data that our clients need. One of DMK Associate's concentrations is forensic surveying, and two early projects prove that scanning is extremely useful in this specialized sector. "We were able to scan a paver block parking system that was slipping badly, and create maps and displays that isolated the problem areas to help guide mediation and mitigation," explains Kokomoor, "And we've also scanned a large deck on three occasions—by comparing scans over time, we've precisely located the areas of uneven settlement, and can now design a cost-effective solution."
