This month Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) will offer two free web demonstrations of Global Mapper and the Blue Marble Desktop, these sessions will focus on working with 3D data in each application. See the details and sign up for each session below:
This 60 minute session will cover topics related to working in 3 dimensions in Global Mapper. Exploring real world scenarios, we will examine placing models into your map or creating your own from scratch, and then viewing and analyzing the data using the 3D viewer. Workflows covered will include editing 3D data using the Digitzer, viewing 3d surfaces and models, and terrain analysis functions such as View Shed analysis, Watershed delineation, creating terrain surfaces from LiDAR data or contours grids, and contour generation.
Blue Marble Desktop - Working with Vertical Datums
In the May edition of the Blue Marble Desktop webinar, we will examine vertical datums and transforming 3d data. 3D data is increasingly common, whether we are mapping flood plains, sea beds, subsurface features or modeling on the surface. Data may come in the form of databases of numeric coordinates, vector based contour maps, LiDAR point clouds, or raster surface models. Wherever this 3D data comes from, the elevations are based on a specific vertical reference, and transforming from one to another must be done properly, or analysis done on the models will be flawed. This 60 minute session will explore the complexities of handling this data.
