Offers New Primary Research from Ovum on Current Location Technologies for Indoor 9-1-1 Calls; Covers Proposed Rule Changes from FCC to Improve Indoor Location
BERWYN, Pa.--As part of National 9-1-1 Education Month, TruePosition, a provider of wireless location technologies and solutions and a subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation, will sponsor a free webinar entitled “The Importance of Locating Wireless 9-1-1 Calls Indoors.” The webinar is hosted by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), and it will feature speakers from NENA, industry analyst firm Ovum and TruePosition. The live webinar will occur on Thursday, April 19, at 1:00 PM EDT, and interested parties can register by using the following link: http://www.visualwebcaster.com/NENA/84644/reg.asp.
The webinar will explain how the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) measures the performance of the wireless location technologies currently used to locate 9-1-1 phone calls made from cell phones. The webinar will examine the latest proposed rules from the FCC, including statements about countywide averaging, a single location accuracy requirement, as well as an indoor location requirement. Also, analysts from Ovum will review the results of its recent report that shows the benefits of certain location techniques and exposes the limitations of others.
“This year’s National 9-1-1 Education Month offers the public safety sector an opportunity to discuss current FCC guidelines and evaluate the behind-the-scenes technology that can help save more lives during critical 9-1-1 emergencies,” said Michael Amarosa, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs for TruePosition. “The research from Ovum specifically addresses the performance of A-GPS and U-TDOA technologies to secure accurate indoor location, and the findings reveal the challenges of locating wireless 9-1-1 calls in demanding environments, such as indoors or in cities with tall buildings.”
The webinar will feature a panel of expert spokespeople on the subject of indoor location for 9-1-1 calls, including the following: Trey Forgety, Government Affairs Director, NENA; Jeremy Green, Principal Analyst, Ovum; Sara Kaufman, Telecommunications Analyst, Ovum; and Rash Mia, Vice President of Technology and Chief Scientist, TruePosition.
