MapHook App Lights Up to Show Earth Hour Participants Turning Lights Off E-mail
Written by MapHook

World Wildlife Fund uses MapHook to share Earth Hour participant experiences world-wide

DULLES, Va.---MapHook, the location-based journal application, is helping World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour participants come closer together using its social media platform. Earth Hour, which took place on March 31, 2012, is an annual event sponsored by WWF. Earth Hour participants pledge to turn off non-essential lights for one hour on this day in order to show a united commitment to a better and more sustainable future for the earth. By teaming together, MapHook and WWF are hoping to show that one hour can become many hours if people share their individual experiences with the world.

“In today’s age of technology, applications like ours are changing the boundaries that define a community”

WWF is asking Earth Hour participants to share their experiences by creating “hooks” on MapHook describing their participation in Earth Hour. Participants are also asked to include photos and videos from Earth Hour in their “hooks.” Earth Hour participants can post their “hooks” on http://www.worldwildlife.org/sites/earthhour/Showus.html. This site provides detailed instructions on how users can participate in this project.

“In today’s age of technology, applications like ours are changing the boundaries that define a community,” says Dr. Paul Carter, MapHook CEO. “This project exemplifies how social networking applications like MapHook can help widen those boundaries and bring individuals together to share a collective human experience. We are excited to be a part of this event and are committed to continually developing MapHook so that it can continue to bring people together from anywhere around the globe.”
