A first test version of http://OpenMapSurfer.uni-hd.de is online. Currently it offers a global road map and a semitransparent map layer from OpenStreetMap data. In particular also a New global Aster Hillshade layer is available at OpenMapSurfer.uni-hd.de. In October 2011 the second version of the ASTER DEM has ben published. It offers quality improvements compared to the first version. This data has now been used to produce a global hillshade as overlay for web maps. OpenMapSurfer.uni-hd.de is based on MapSurfer.Net by Maxim Rylow from the GIScience Research Group at the University of Heidelberg (http://giscience.uni-hd.de).

You can add the overlay layer by activating the layer button in the right top corner of the map. Further layers shall follow as mentioned at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenMapSurfer
