Innovyze Smart Asset Management Tools to Help in Comprehensive Collection System Assessment

Broomfield, Colorado USA, February 14, 2012 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for wet infrastructure, today announced that the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT), New Zealand, has opted to draw on the powerful analysis and business intelligence capabilities of InfoNet to assist in the condition assessment program for its sewer collection system. SCIRT, a partnership between the New Zealand Government, Christchurch City Council and key contractors, is responsible for rebuilding the horizontal infrastructure in Christchurch following the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.

On February 22, 2011, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch, causing massive damage to city buildings, underground water and waste services, roads, parks and facilities. The earthquake was centered 2 km west of Lyttelton, and its violent shaking brought down buildings across the city and claimed the lives of 182 people. This earthquake happened six months after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in September 2010. That event also resulted in significant damage to city buildings and infrastructure, but mercifully no lives were lost. Damage to the wastewater infrastructure was extensive, impacting more than 300 km of the 1600 km of pipe in the network. Damage includes cracks, collapses, joint breakage, and loss of gradient – all causing significant environmental impacts.

“As a result of the earthquakes and related damage we have embarked on an ambitious inspection and rehabilitation program,” said David Heiler, Asset Assessment Engineer for SCIRT. “We are filming kilometres of gravity wastewater and stormwater pipe every day, and need superior analytical tools to schedule inspections, analyze pipe condition defects and grade issues, and help prioritize repairs within the network. InfoNet performs these asset assessment functions well and is being used to store all pipe assessment data collected during the rebuild.”

“All of us were immensely affected by the devastating human toll of the Christchurch tragedy and the terrible impact of its aftermath,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, F.ASCE, President and Chief Operating Officer of Innovyze. “As engineers, we are intensely aware of the daunting challenge of repairing and rehabilitating the community’s wastewater system. We continue to be impressed and inspired by the Christchurch engineering community’s commitment to leveraging innovative technologies to address this critical step in protecting the community’s health and restoring its quality of life.”

About InfoNet
InfoNet is a purpose-built Infrastructure Management System (IMS) for water distribution, wastewater collection and stormwater networks, focused on ensuring informed, swift and cost-effective decision making for both day-to-day operational management and long-term network planning. It enables operations managers, engineers and planners to manage, integrate, validate, analyze, and report on their network data. It allows users to provide accurate, auditable, up to-date information and report on network infrastructure and performance, with results presented in easy-to-use formats.

InfoNet enables planners and engineers to plan, construct, rehabilitate and maintain water networks using a risk-based approach that leads to greater efficiency and facilitates compliance with legal requirements to identify and safeguard critical assets. Automatic verification, inference and data tracking allow the quick creation of hydraulic models. Planners can also apply InfoNet’s analytical toolset to a consolidated and complete network data store to help them make logical, prioritized and cost effective decisions about the network’s future.

To ensure that managers have a clear single picture of their network infrastructure, InfoNet supports the integration of a wealth of applications and data sets already in use at many enterprises, including GIS, corporate databases, CMMS, field data systems, SCADA, hydraulic modeling/analysis software or other corporate applications. Its robust query engine allows users to filter, sort, and make complex selections based on virtually any criteria related to their underground assets. InfoNet also has the unique ability to query against field surveys (CCTV, manhole inspections, smoke testing, valve inspections) and other events related to network assets.
