Morrisville, N.C. – The Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) will host “Probing the Future of the Property Records Industry – A Land Summit” on Wednesday afternoon, February 29, from 1-5 p.m., at the Washington Marriott (on 22nd Street), featuring the largest and most diverse group of industry stakeholders, including mortgage banking, title, property records and federal agencies that will gather for a facilitated discussion to address the future of the industry.

The land records industry has faced significant challenges since the advent of the foreclosure crisis. Misconceptions and confusion prevail not only within the industry but also with the public and the media outlets. There is increased scrutiny from regulators and multiple proposed solutions from members of Congress, the Federal Reserve, State Attorney Generals and others.

This confab is an opportunity to gather the key industry players together for an open discussion to define the future of the property records industry. Topics will include national lien registries, barriers to recording real estate transactions, access to records, robo-signing, notarization, increasing adoption of electronic mortgages and electronic recording, mortgage/land fraud prevention, uniform laws, foreclosures and other industry related topics.

Confirmed Summit Participants as of January 27:
- American Land Title Association (ALTA)
- American Escrow Association (AEA)
- Department of Justice Financial Crimes Unit (FBI)

PRIA 2012 Winter Symposium

According to the summit co-facilitator Mark Monacelli, public records and property valuation director, St. Louis Co., Minn., “Property rights are an essential component for individual prosperity and economic growth for our country. This meeting will mark the first time that key industry stakeholders will gather to discuss the current state of the industry and offer insights and direction for working together to shape the future.”

The overall conference program also includes a general session on the multi-generational workforce, basic lending practices, land fraud and its effect on the public records and eRecording eXcellence, to name a few.

PRIA committees and workgroups will have two opportunities, on Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon, for working sessions during the symposium.

Symposium Co-Chairs, Comal County Clerk, Joy Streater, and Lisa Goldsworthy, Mentis Technologies, are anticipating a robust turnout for the three-day meeting
